Corporate Volunteering

12 Sep 2024

On Tuesday the 13th of August 2024, Julie Addington from the ESES Communities team joined Emma Standish, Responsible Business Lead at McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd to volunteer at The Yard.

McLaughlin & Harvey are currently on-site at a nearby school, Trinity Academy, undertaking decant and demolition enabling works associated with initial operations for its redevelopment. They always work proactively to engage and support the communities they are working within to ensure their work leaves a lasting impact.

The Yard is a Scottish charity based at Canonmills in Edinburgh supporting disabled children and young people aged 0-25 through adventure play. They offer creative and inclusive play experiences in a well-supported environment, alongside wraparound support for the whole family.

It is a beautiful space, but it takes lots of upkeep!

Emma and Julie joined The Yard Team for one of their quarterly maintenance days, Emma got busy in the art room while Julie tackled some gardening tasks.

Julie Addington said, “The staff were so welcoming and organised, it was an absolute pleasure.”

Emma Standish said, “It was a pleasure to volunteer at The Yard, seeing first-hand the hard work that goes into helping the young people within the local community. Corporate volunteering is not just about giving back, it's about investing in our community to make a meaningful impact, something which I am very passionate about.”

Keely Hetherington, Development Assistant at The Yard said, “As we support over 2600 disabled children and young people a year our facilities go through a considerable amount of wear and tear, we're incredibly grateful for our corporate volunteers who make it possible for us to keep the yard play ready all throughout the year.”
