Balfour Beatty Support Mood Project

MOOD provides activities to promote mental health and enhance well-being across the West Lothian area.

Their mission is to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to prevent mental health decline, reduce isolation and create a safe, enjoyable, nurturing environment for social engagement with their peers.

Based in Stoneyburn, they serve people aged 18 and over, providing a range of activities, including arts and crafts, crocheting, jewellery making, knitting, a ‘Shed Your Worries’ hut, and a wellbeing garden.

BALFOUR BEATTY

The construction firm Balfour Beatty are well known to us in the ESES Communities Team.

Earlier in the year, the team at Balfour Beatty reached out to offer pallets to local community groups in West Lothian who could give them a second lease of life. As a key construction firm within the ESES CRD area, they strive to ensure that they connect with communities and leave a positive legacy.

These materials were part of a recent project with Edinburgh Airport. Rehoming them reduces landfill waste, and community groups save on needed materials.

One of the groups that received a delivery of pallets was Mood, who were delighted to receive a batch for their outdoor premises.

However, Paula Mark, the Project Manager at Mood told us: "These pallet materials were of such high quality that the people who attend our groups were able to construct an unexpected storage space, i.e. a shed, without MOOD having to find around £1,500 to £2,000 of funding to build such a resource. We're so grateful for this support!

The generous donations of high-quality materials from larger organisations like Balfour Beatty, allows us to grow our diverse projects without having to apply for funding as this can be a bit of a challenge and takes some time away from our focus on mental health support. It’s comforting to know that people really care about small charities like ours. Their acknowledgment and support make it so much easier for us to keep doing this meaningful work.

We are thrilled that our surplus pallets have found a second life with the Mood Project. It's fantastic to see them repurposed for such a great cause, supporting the 'Shed Your Worries' initiative and creating a valuable storage area for the wellbeing garden. Being able to contribute to the local community and support a group that does such vital work for mental health is something we're incredibly proud of at Balfour Beatty
