A food bank in the Scottish Borders has benefitted from a kind donation by Maxi Construction.

Working at the heart of communities and serving the most vulnerable people, The Salvation Army operate a food bank allowing those on low incomes to access groceries and household essentials.

They also offer a range of tailored support in the way of budget and debt advice and employment opportunities.

Having registered with the portal and previously donated similarly to Pennywell Pantry in Edinburgh, Maxi Construction delivered a donation of 200kg of food items to help stock their food bank which operates all year round. On the same day, Lisa Aitken from Maxi also delivered foodstuffs to the nearby Burnfoot Community Futures Foodshare project.

This is following the news that Maxi were successful in securing the tender to build the new £2.5 million Hawick Business Centre. As part of this, Maxi are keen to undertake early positive engagement with local community causes - both helping fulfil their community benefit clauses in winning the project but also in line with their values as an organisation to support good causes. On the same day, Lisa Aitken from Maxi also delivered foodstuffs to the nearby Burnfoot Community Futures Foodshare project.

Branch Officer, Caroline Brophy-Park MBE, highlighted the recent rise in demand of the foodbank: "Over the last two years we have been reaching twice as many people as we have previously. Over 695 recipients, many of whom are families, have received support from the foodbank."

Business Support Coordinator at Maxi, Lisa Aitken values the work the charities do and commented: “I am grateful to the team at ESES Communities for putting us in contact with these charities. It has been a real eye-opener getting out into the communities and meeting the volunteers and recipients. It is apparent that the cost of living crisis is impacting people from all areas and it’s vital that we do all we can to help support. I look forward to seeing what other projects we can get involved with via the ESES Communities Portal”.

Founded in 1971 Maxi Construction has delivered new build, extension, fit-out and refurbishment projects in all market sectors throughout central and southern Scotland. They are involved in a number of projects within Edinburgh & South East Scotland, including contracts for the City of Edinburgh Council where they have completed numerous projects within the city’s communities including works at Wardie, Davidson Mains and Duddingston Primary Schools, and they are currently on site at Boroughmuir High School and Gracemount Civic Square.
