Invest in Midlothian: Support the Base Youth Club

The Base

Status: Open Request
Location: Danderhall HUB
Town: Danderhall

Description

The Base is a new Youth Club that is held at the Danderhall Community Hub in Midlothian. The children who attend are from Shawfair, Danderhall, Millerhill, Newton Village, and surrounding areas.

Background

The club was founded in October 2024 by two dedicated parents who started it from nothing and were driven to offer local kids a positive environment to grow, engage, and connect with their peers.

It is a free and safe space for local children and since opening, our club has become an important resource for children in primary years 4–7, providing a welcoming environment where they can build friendships, engage in positive activities, and experience personal growth. We currently have 133 children registered.

Due to the success of our initial sessions and increasing demand from the community, we have decided to expand the club to include children in primary 2 and 3. To ensure the safety and well-being of all children, we plan to run two separate sessions. As a result, we now need to hire three halls to accommodate the larger capacity and maintain safe adult-to-child ratios.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of 10 volunteers who help ensure the smooth running of the club and oversee activities. Their commitment and enthusiasm make all the difference in creating a safe and engaging environment for the children.

Our request

The Base Youth Club is a free, safe, and inclusive space with 133 children currently registered in Midlothian who can play, learn, and build friendships. Many of these children have no access to other activities, making our club a vital part of their development and well-being.

We rely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals to keep our sessions running at no cost to families. Support can come in many forms, including:

 - Sponsorship, donations, equipment and support with costs and activities for our Family Fun Day on 2nd August.

Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us offer a well-rounded program for the children in our community. Thank you for considering supporting the youth club and positively impacting local children's lives.

Costs we need to cover for the August event:

  • Snacks, refreshments, and an ice cream van for families attending
  • Inflatables
  • Hall hire
  • Foldable tables for stalls
  • Colour Bomb items for an activity
  • Bibs and high-vis vests for volunteers
  • A first aid
  • Box of cool pads for treating minor injuries

Other things we need to fund or would love to receive are:

  • Console controllers for gaming activities
  • Activity tables for various group sessions
  • Outdoor equipment like balls, cones, and skipping ropes for physical activities
  • Sports equipment (e.g., footballs, basketballs, volleyballs)

Potential sponsorship for the Youth Club:

£108—This covers the weekly hall hire for the youth club

£500 – Supports bus hire to take children on outings or to special events

£1,000—This covers the costs for activities like bowling, cinema trips, and laser tag
