Description

A secondary school in the Scottish Borders are seeking financial donations towards the purchasing of sports kits and items for their rugby team.

Rugby is a large and extremely important part of the cultural and recreational landscape of the Scottish Borders, teaching team work, confidence building, offering an alternative route to peer engagement with disengaged pupils and also promoting physical and mental health.

Owing to the cost of living crisis, there has been a significant increase in disadvantaged children and families presenting themselves and as a result there is a growing concern and trend of pupils who are now facing barriers to participating as a result of the costs required to purchase kit by their families. The wider impact of this extra-curricular disengagement can result in social isolation, peer challenges and lower attainment levels within school. Currently there is no funding available for extra-curricular activity equipment and this responsibility lies with the families.

The school would like to further emphasise that no contribution is too small and any donation would be of great value to their team.
