Edinburgh Anchor Network: Sharing Session

28 Jul 2026

The Edinburgh Anchor Network is a collaboration of organisations working in the city to grow awareness of Community Wealth Building approaches and build a city-wide movement. The network is running regular online Community Wealth Building sharing sessions to shine a light on local best practice and support those interested in the approach to connect.

This sharing session will focus on the work being progressed by Fresh Start and Scran Academy. Fresh Start is an Edinburgh-based charity that works directly with people who are moving on from homelessness, providing essential household goods and social support services. Scran Academy is a youth-led catering social enterprise that uses food and cooking to support young people in engaging with learning, work and life.

This session will look at practical examples of Community Wealth Building, covering land ownership, community benefit, employment and procurement. It will particularly focus on place-based experiences and social enterprise. The session will also look at next steps for Community Wealth Building. This will be at both a city-wide level, through delivery of the Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Act, and at a community-level in North Edinburgh, through West Pilton Park Café and Walled Garden.

The agenda for the session is as follows:

  • 12.00-12.05 - Session introduction
  • 12.05-12.30 - Presentation from Biddy Kelly (CEO of Fresh Start) and Will Bain (CEO of Scran Academy)
  • 12.30-12.45 - Attendee questions”
