Morrison Construction Celebrate Volunteers' Effort
The start of June launched 'Volunteers' Week' which provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work and hours dedicated by volunteers across the country, who play such an important role in their communities.
Changes Community Health Project are one such organisation, who rely on the input of their volunteers.They are a community health project based in East Lothian, and aim to help anyone aged 16 and over and in need of support to achieve and maintain positive mental health and wellbeing.
They offer a variety of services and activities to interact with members including;
- One-to-one therapy
- Support groups and courses
- Healthy living activities
- Training
- Volunteering opportunities
Changes added a request on www.esescommunities.org as they were looking to hold an event to celebrate the efforts of all their volunteers.
Morrison Construction stepped in as they were keen to be involved and offered to sponsor the event to help support the mental health charity, as they are currently working on a nearby project in Wallyford.
The event was hosted by Kelly Thacker of Changes CHP, and Parvine Jazayeri from The Ageing Well project which promotes healthy lifestyles for people over 50 in East Lothian. Held at the at the Fraser Centre in Tranent and was attended by the volunteers, Changes CHP and Ageing Well.
Kelly Thacker who is the Community Project Co-ordinator for Changes said;
In partnership with Ageing Well, Changes CHP offer a variety of support including a cycling group, buddy, nordic and group walks which rely on the time from the 50 volunteers.
Jim Johnstone, Head of Social Impact at Morrison Construction added;“With Morrison being in the construction phase of the new Wallyford Campus it is important to us – as with any project – that we reach out to the local community. Clearly Changes are providing valuable support and human contact with local people who feel a bit isolated and that’s a really positive thing. On Volunteers Week we’re delighted to sponsor the venue and some tea and scones for a really deserving group of volunteers, which came about through the ESES Communities portal. We look forward to continuing to complement our business with a positive social footprint in the areas we work.”
