University of Edinburgh Community Plan

29 Oct 2025

On the evening of Wednesday, 8 October, we had the pleasure of attending the launch of the University of Edinburgh's Community Plan 2025-2030. The venue was the Edinburgh Futures Institute, a significant ESES City Regional Deal Project.

The event was opened by Marion Thain, Director of the Edinburgh Futures Institute, who stated that all their work is delivered in partnership, with the intention of serving as an interface with the local community, and everyone is welcome.

We went on to hear from Peter Mathieson, Principal & Vice-Chancellor at The University of Edinburgh, Deputy Director of Stakeholder Relations, Lynn McMath and Gemma Gourlay, Head of Social Impact.

They currently have 50 tenants in the building, and they actively encourage people to meet here and use the space.  The Community can access rooms via the ‘Community Access to Rooms’ scheme.

The message was very much that they want to enable communities to lead the change they want to see.

Maximising Community Impact Through Procurement

The University of Edinburgh, as a key stakeholder in the Edinburgh and South East of Scotland (ESES) City Region Deal, is actively working to embed social value within its procurement processes.

A prime example of this commitment is how the University encourages its suppliers to partner with local organisations. This initiative ensures that the University's social investment through the ESES City Region Deal and our portal creates a positive, lasting legacy and maximises its impact on communities within the deal area.
