Cambridge Bioscience Supports Forthview School

Cambridge Bioscience is a leading UK distributor of life science products for research. As part of its supply contract with the University of Edinburgh, the company works with the ESES Communities Team to identify opportunities for social value investment across Edinburgh and South East Scotland. This marks the third year of collaboration.

The ESES Communities Team works closely with Lorraine Winter and Gabriella Mallamaci from Cambridge Bioscience, who consistently demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting local communities and creating meaningful social impact.

During a recent review of the ESES Communities Portal, Cambridge Bioscience identified an active support request from Forthview Primary School in Edinburgh for reusable water bottles.

Located in Pilton, North Edinburgh, Forthview Primary School serves a catchment area that includes some of the city's most disadvantaged communities. The school's request highlighted that many pupils come from low-income households, where even everyday essentials can be difficult to afford.

While a reusable water bottle may seem like a small item, it can have a significant impact. It helps ensure children stay hydrated throughout the school day, supports learning and wellbeing, and reinforces an important message that every child is valued. It also encourages sustainable habits by reducing reliance on single-use plastics.

In response to the request, Cambridge Bioscience donated 30 reusable water bottles, which were distributed to pupils who previously either brought single-use plastic bottles to school or had no water bottle at all.

The donation has delivered both environmental and social benefits, helping pupils to stay hydrated while promoting sustainability and reducing waste across the school community.

“The donation of 30 reusable water bottles has made a real difference to our pupils. It has supported children who may not otherwise have their own water bottle, while encouraging all pupils to reuse bottles and reduce single-use plastic within our school. This is particularly valuable in our community, helping us promote both sustainability and equality.”

We are proud to support Forthview School through the donation of reusable water bottles for pupils. Small initiatives like this can make a meaningful difference, promoting both wellbeing and environmental awareness through reduced single use plastic. At Cambridge Bioscience, supporting our local communities is important to us, and we are delighted to contribute to a project that benefits students every day.
