Travis Perkins Supports Drylaw Community
Following Team VIY’s first project in Scotland at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre, a quantity of surplus builders’ sand remained on site. While there was clear demand for the material, redistributing these one-tonne bags of sand presented a practical challenge, requiring specialist lifting equipment and transport.
Seeking to keep the resource in use within the community, the ESES Communities Team identified a need at Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre, where the sand could support ongoing improvements to the community garden. The challenge was finding a way to move it.
Thanks to the swift support of Travis Perkins Edinburgh West, what could have become a wasted resource was transformed into a valuable community donation. Responding immediately to a request for support, Jean Paul Seri, Operations Manager, generously arranged for the sand to be transported from Royston Wardieburn Community Centre to Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre.
This simple but impactful act ensured valuable materials remained within the community and were put to good use. The donated sand will support landscaping works, including the creation of accessible pathways, helping more local residents enjoy the garden throughout the year.
The donation of two tonne bags of sand will make a real difference to our garden development project. The sand is ideal for laying beneath paving stones and will help us create new pathways, improving access across the site. We'd like to thank Capital City Partnership for coordinating the donation and Travis Perkins for delivering it to us.
This project demonstrates the power of collaboration between businesses and community organisations. By donating their time, expertise and transport resources, Travis Perkins helped ensure a valuable resource reached a local organisation that could put it to immediate use, supporting the continued development of an accessible and welcoming space for the Drylaw community.
