Cambridge Bioscience Donates Tech
Cambridge Bioscience is a major UK distributor of life science products used for scientific research and the development of new therapies and diagnostics.
As part of their supply contract with the University of Edinburgh, they are asked to engage with the ESES Communities Team to explore opportunities for social value investment in Edinburgh and Southeast Scotland. This is the third year that Cambridge BioScience has collaborated to make a positive difference in our region's communities.
The ESES Team works closely with Lorraine Winter and Gabriella Mallamaci from Cambridge Bioscience, and they stand out to us as a company that genuinely cares about and is invested in the ESES Communities.
Upon their recent review of the ESES Communities Portal, they became aware of Fairways Fife. They had a live request for tech donations, and you can read their story below.
Fairway Fife is a Dunfermline-based charity dedicated to supporting people aged 16 and over with learning disabilities to live fuller, more connected lives. Through its peer mentoring programme, members are matched with trained volunteers who provide companionship, encouragement, and support to help them access activities in their local communities.
From trips to the cinema and sporting activities to shopping and social outings, these experiences help members build friendships, reduce isolation, and grow in confidence and independence. For many, Fairway Fife provides opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach.
As demand for support continues to grow, access to technology has become increasingly important. Many members rely on tablets, laptops, and smartphones to stay connected, participate in activities, and develop new skills. However, with limited resources and growing financial pressures, replacing heavily used devices is a significant challenge.
Donations of technology can make a lasting difference, helping Fairway Fife continue to empower its members, strengthen connections, and create opportunities for people to achieve their goals and live their dreams.
The Donation
After seeing the request, Cambridge Bioscience were keen to get involved, sourcing and supplying Fairway Fife with 3 iPad Minis and 1 Amazon Tablet, which were repurposed and in very good condition. As they are company devices, they are all relatively new and well-maintained.
We are committed to working with community partners like ESES to support projects and programmes that deliver real benefits.
Having identified this opportunity through the Communities Portal, we were delighted to be able to support Fairway Fife with their request for technology. It is fantastic to see the positive impact that the devices are already having on Fairway Fife’s members, and we are pleased to play a part in helping the organisation achieve its goals.
Lorraine Winter, Quality & Compliance Manager, Cambridge Bioscience
A huge THANK YOU to everyone at Cambridge Bioscience for your incredibly generous donation of 3 iPad minis and an Amazon tablet.
These devices will be used as learning & communication tools. Enabling our members to develop IT skills, promoting independence, and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to make choices and express themselves in ways that suit them best.
At Fairway Fife, we believe everyone has a voice, and this wonderful donation will make a real difference.
Thank you so much for your support!
Neil Freir, Charity Manager, Fairway Fife
