New England Bio Labs Support Midlothian Community

Recently New England Bio Labs supported 6 projects in the Edinburgh & South East City Region area with contributions towards their activities in the community.

New England Biolabs was founded in the mid-1970s as a collective of scientists committed to developing innovative products for the life sciences industry. They are proud to be a world leader in the discovery and production of enzymes for molecular biology applications.

As part of their contract with the University of Edinburgh, New England Biolabs is committed to engaging in Community Benefits throughout Edinburgh and South East Scotland.

They are motivated by a set of core, foundational values:

  • Being a Responsible Company
  • Activism
  • Philanthropy and Foundation Support
  • Environmental Stewardship

They were keen to support The Glencorse Centre and The Roslin Guerrilla Gardeners as this aligns with their University of Edinburgh contract - part of which is to support local community initiatives.

The Glencorse Centre

The Glencorse Centre is a small, charity-run community centre in Auchendinny, Midlothian, run with the help of a band of dedicated volunteers.

Their overarching aim is to help build, encourage and sustain lasting connections within their immediate community and beyond.

They are in the process of enhancing their outdoor facilities to help reopen and upgrade their toddler play park. The park has been closed due to safety concerns and urgently requires repairs and improvements to make it safe and fun for local children and their families.

The generous support from New England Bio Labs has helped us take another big step toward creating an inclusive play space for our community. Their contribution is helping turn our vision of an accessible playpark into reality, ensuring that every child can play together, laugh, and belong.

Roslin Guerrilla Gardeners

Roslin Guerrilla Gardeners are a small community group driven by their passion to improving Roslin by reclaiming unused community spaces, rejuvenating neglected areas, and encouraging more connection with nature.

Situated in the heart of Roslin the medical practice stands in a large green space and the team have been trying to improve this outside space.
Due to the large increase in homes being built in the village extra strain has been placed on the hard working staff. The Guerrilla Gardeners team strive to enhance the area for the staff, patients and the wider community to enjoy and connect with nature.

The donation from New England Bio Labs is going to be put towards materials and plants to help the space flourish.

We are gradually improving the space at Roslin Medical practice, and this donation will enable us to buy some more plants and shrubs to brighten up what was a neglected and rather depressing area. Thank you! Every donation makes such a difference to us. We are just a small group, but we hope that our work improves the spaces in our village.
