New England Bio Labs Support Borders Children
Recently New England Bio Labs supported 6 projects in the Edinburgh & South East City Region area with contributions towards their activities in the community.
New England Biolabs was founded in the mid-1970s as a collective of scientists committed to developing innovative products for the life sciences industry. They are proud to be a world leader in the discovery and production of enzymes for molecular biology applications.
As part of their contract with the University of Edinburgh, New England Biolabs is committed to engaging in Community Benefits throughout Edinburgh and South East Scotland.
They are motivated by a set of core, foundational values:
- Being a Responsible Company
- Activism
- Philanthropy and Foundation Support
- Environmental Stewardship
They were keen to support the request from Burgh Primary School as this aligns with their University of Edinburgh contract - part of which is to support local community initiatives.
Burgh Primary School, based in Galashiels, has reached its 150th birthday this year, this makes it one of the oldest schools in the Scottish Borders.
To mark the celebration of their Victorian school, the Parent Council were seeking to enhance their outdoor area with playground improvements including donations of materials, planters, help towards restoring seating and lining their small football pitch.
This donation was part of a wider playground improvement programme which will benefit 200+ children in the school for years to come, which echoes the schools motto 'Bright Futures Blossom at Burgh'.
It was nice to get a £100 donation from the business to contribute toward our playground improvement programme. Our school turns 150 this year, and support from New England Bio Lab, along with the strong backing of our local community, has given us a playground to be proud of once again. ‘
