Description

Fa’Side Community Kitchen provides hot meals, home baking, company and a place to be for the Fa'side community.

We prepare food in our kitchen for people who are socially isolated or impacted by the rising cost of living. We also prepare meals that are delivered to vulnerable people.

Our Ask:

The paint on the ceiling of our kitchen is peeling, and there is a risk of physical contamination of the food. We need someone to help us fix this. See image.

 

 

More about us:

The Community Kitchen came into its own during the pandemic. While delivering food, team members realised that many people were isolated and lonely, and there was a real need to create opportunities for people to socialise and talk to others.

The service operates from 10.30 am—1.30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. People can drop in to enjoy a hot drink and a snack. At noon, a hot meal is served. People can play dominos or bingo, get to know each other and chat. We suggest donating £3 towards the hot meal, but this is not monitored. Because of the rising energy and food costs, things are becoming increasingly difficult for people.

 

 

We have people with learning difficulties attending, and this provides a great opportunity for their carers to get a hot meal, a chance to socialise and a break. We have other people who are struggling with drug and alcohol issues. Our service has become a lifeline for many people in our area.

We employ a cook and run the service with volunteers, many of whom are young people. Our community has issues with young people and antisocial behaviour, and we have found that bringing together different generations and members of the community helps to reduce this behaviour and break down barriers.

We run on very limited funds, and this help with our ceiling would be a fantastic support to us and the community we serve.
