Donation of Hygiene Products

Dignity Boxes
Description
We are a charity that provides freely donated toiletries to people in need. Dignity Boxes are small boxes that are filled with a selection of basic toiletries, before being openly placed in areas, that are experiencing deprivation or a high level of poverty.
The aim of the boxes is ultimately to promote self-worth and dignity by allowing those in need to take what they cannot afford, or get access to, from a Dignity Box without having to ask or thank anyone. Consequently, we hope to promote in a small way, self-worth and dignity.
The purpose, as well as practical, is to make people feel a little better about themselves even for a short time.

How does it work?
The charity collects donations of toiletries from businesses and communities, which are used to support people in poverty or who live in an area of deprivation across Lothian. The products /donations are collected by volunteers and delivered to the Headquarters in Livingston, West Lothian where the donations are then sorted and counted before being entered into stock and redistributed.
The charity currently partners with 41 organisations across Edinburgh and the Lothians, who had links with people in poverty and each of them hosted a Dignity Box. The Dignity Box would then be filled once a month with 40 products delivered by volunteers. These were then made available to those in need. The Dignity Boxes, when possible, are situated in a discreet part of the organisations so people in need do not have to ask or thank anyone when they take a product, in the hope this goes a little way to preserving their dignity. Since the pandemic we have had to work in a more flexible and imaginative way to still get the products to the people.
Please get in touch if you can make a donation.
