Donations Of School Uniforms And Essentials

Edinburgh School Uniform Bank

Status: Matched
Location: Edinburgh
Town: Edinburgh

Description

Edinburgh School Uniform Bank provides new school uniform and other essentials to children who are facing hardship all over Edinburgh.
When a child goes to school in the “wrong” clothes, they are vulnerable to bullying, low self-esteem and poor mental health. The effects can be devastating.
“The families I referred would not have managed to send their children to school without this service”
“Many of the parents have broken down and cried with relief receiving the uniform packs”

Children and young people are referred to us by professionals like pupil support workers and social workers. They can choose 6 new items to help them fit in, look smart, feel confident and do their best at school. Many children are living in poverty, and others need our help because they have had a sudden change of circumstances like fleeing domestic abuse or moving into kinship care.

Requirements

Local children and teenagers need new school uniform and other essentials like trainers, school bags, coats, stationery and sportswear. Businesses could provide these by:
(1)    asking us what we need most urgently and buying in the items for us
(2)    providing funding and we will do the shopping. A typical pack of uniform costs around £50, so a donation of £3,000 would support around 60 children

Our service runs all year round and we always need basic uniform like skirts, jumpers and shirts. During the winter months we particularly need coats, hats, gloves, tights, vests and other warm clothing, and in summer we get numerous requests for school bags and other “back to school” essentials. By providing essentials, businesses can make an immediate difference to local children as well as giving them a chance to grow to their full potential.
