Raising funds for for school camp

Newcraighall Primary

Status: Open Request
Location: Benmore Outdoor Education Centre
Town: Edinburgh

Description

Newcraighall Primary is a small school with 178 pupils attending school. Our school serves the growing village on the city's Eastern side, but we also have children attend our school from Niddrie, Craigmillar, East and Midlothian. Many are attracted because we are a small school with a nurturing ethos.

There is a lot of poverty in our school community; everywhere, the cost of living has increased, and families are being pushed to the limit. This leaves very little to help fund children going out on excursions.

How can you help?

Our Primary 7 children have an upcoming excursion to Benmore Residential Camp, costing each family £475. Our families appreciate and value the benefit that residential tours give to the children; however, many have expressed their concerns over the costs involved, and this may lead to their child not taking part.

Our school has very little funding from the City of Edinburgh Council compared to our neighbouring schools in our cluster.  While we try to fundraise, we are asking the same families in this situation to fund the fundraising.

All children would benefit from participating in such an excursion as this might be the only chance they will ever have to try out all the different types of activities, outdoor learning opportunities and residential experiences in a part of our country they may never otherwise have the chance to visit.

Any contribution would be gratefully received.

Outdoor adventure education supports children's emotional, physical, and intellectual growth, instilling in them a “can-do” attitude that they can apply to all aspects of their lives. They develop a better sense of self, which allows them to better manage fear, stress and anxiety, as well as instilling in them a sense of determination and a desire to succeed.
