Cambridge Bioscience & the Friends of Roslin Moat
Cambridge Bioscience is a UK Distributor for Life Science products for medical research, based in Cambridge.
As part of their supply contract with the University of Edinburgh, they are asked to engage with the ESES Communities Team to explore opportunities for social value investment in Edinburgh and Southeast Scotland. This is the second year of collaborating.
Through this contact, they were introduced to the Friends of Roslin Moat.
Roslin Moat is a local biodiversity site on the edge of Roslin, Midlothian, and is enjoyed by many villagers and visitors to the area. The Friends of Roslin Moat promote nature conservation and biodiversity on the site.
It is run entirely by volunteers, and they were looking for a bench to make the area more welcoming to both locals and visitors from outside the region.
Anne Hyatt, one of the lead volunteers, said, "Thank you so much to Cambridge Bioscience for their very generous donation of a bench, which we know will be of great benefit to villagers and visitors to Roslin."
Making ethical buying choices:
The bench was purchased from LLP Plastic, a Midlothian company with a vision to make a positive impact on the environment by providing high-quality recycled plastic materials.
This purchase provides a good example of how community wealth building promotes the progressive procurement of goods and services: spending power can achieve greater economic, social, and environmental benefits.
